The Shipping Company NSB is certified according to ISO 14001 - 2009. Our certified environmental management system and our own, self appointed environmental programm sets standards for pollution control in waste, emissions, and paints – much above the present regulations.
Environmentally friendly underwater-coatings
The extremely toxic chemical Tributylzinn (TBT), which has been discovered in many fish and marine wild life, has been banned for all shipping since 2008. NSB had already replaced their underwater coatings for the entire fleet consisting of 90 ships way before the new regulations will come into effect.
Equipment with shore connection containers
NSB’s vessels will be equipped increasingly with shore connection containers which supply energy from land to the ships when docked, resulting in reduced exhaust emissions and cleaner air.
Use of environmentally friendly fuels
Most of our vessels are already equipped with a separate system for environmentally friendly, low-sulphur fuels today. Exhaust emissions are greatly reduced by employing environmentally friendly fuels.
Reliable sealing systems
Special stern-tube sealing systems with air chambers reliably prevent oil leakage and reduce the risk of oil contamination. They help prevent long-term damage to Mother Nature.
Cooperation with certified partners
Sludge, used oil, and ship’s waste are released only to certified companies wherever possible in order to ensure that environmentally friendly waste-disposal can be traced easily.
Technology for the demanding transportation of gas
The NSB tanker fleet’s up-to-date gas tankers also fully implement the requirements concerning preventative measures for environmental protection. Constant assessments, together with internal quality, and environmental audits ensure that consistent standards as well as high-performance technology required for the demanding transportation of gas are maintained.
